Switzerland is home to one of the largest and most modern pyrolysis plants in the world. Pyrolysis is a chemical process in which organic compounds are decomposed in the absence of oxygen. This plant is equipped with residual wood from the region. This is used to generate electricity and heat for customers in the surrounding area. Another product is vegetable carbon. Plants bind CO2<\/sub> from the atmosphere. Pyrolysis technology turns it into permanent carbon. If the plant carbon is incorporated into the soil, the carbon is bound long term and can no longer be metabolised. This is how true negative emissions (removals) are created. In the case of the plant in Frauenfeld, we are talking about around 10,000 tonnes of CO2<\/sub> per year.<\/p>\n\n
