Both positions are more than unwise.<\/p>\n\n<p>GES advocates limiting the expansion of volatile renewables (solar and wind) in the German electricity sector <a href=\"https:\/\/global-energy-solutions.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/240607stromsystem_final.pdf\">to around 50 per cent<\/a>. At the same time, the mix of renewables should also be optimised. Photovoltaics are currently the main source of expansion in Germany. This can lead to serious problems in the grid. This is because PV is significantly more volatile than offshore wind.
