This will certainly not happen overnight, and its implementation would also present political challenges – as is always the case in such situations. Our philosophy is therefore: be realistic, build on our own strengths, and minimise risks. There are risks, for example, associated with the current import of LNG, which releases significant quantities of harmful gases. By contrast, the extraction of domestic natural gas is significantly less harmful to the climate. Our background paper provides a comprehensive overview of the issue, including an assessment of the fracking technique, which is often criticised in Germany.

Click here for Hans Jürgen Wernicke’s background paper.

Our position on the extraction of – substantial – quantities of domestic natural gas is therefore as follows: it represents a genuine opportunity, so let us examine it with an open mind!
