The German energy transition is in urgent need of correction. The search for cost-optimised solutions is an absolute must in order to keep losses in prosperity to a minimum. What is needed: technological openness and a global perspective.

Global Energy Solutions has summarised its recommendations in an 8-point programme.

  1. Electricity prices must be competitive again and electricity must be reliably available at all times in the long term
  2. New photovoltaic and wind power plants must be able to hold their own without subsidies.
  3. Fossil-fuelled power plants must be made climate-friendly by means of CO2 capture.
  4. Seize the opportunity of German natural gas!
  5. Only use hydrogen for cost-efficient applications.
  6. CO2-neutral fuels for energy-intensive industry and mobility.
  7. Consider a return to nuclear energy.
  8. Market-based solutions instead of bans and excessive bureaucracy.

A more in-depth analysis can be found in another paper that GES has developed together with the Clean Energy Forum: In favour of an effective and affordable energy and climate protection policy in Germany. At best, it could serve as a guideline for upcoming coalition negotiations.
