Quote from the interview with Prof. Franz Josef Radermacher: “German climate policy is primarily concerned with reducing the country’s own CO₂emissions. This climate nationalism ‘burns through’ hundreds of billions of euros year after year. This is because, in our country, avoiding one ton of CO₂often requires direct and/or indirect subsidies of many thousands of euros—for example, for electric vehicles (which only become zero-emission vehicles by regulation) and frequently in the construction sector—while in the southern hemisphere, one ton of CO₂can be removed from the atmosphere for about 40 euros.”
