Climate protection can only succeed through global cooperation. And yet, in recent years, Germany’s contribution to climate protection has taken place almost exclusively ‘at home’. However, this has had no tangible effect. Global greenhouse gas emissions continue to rise. National emissions are falling slightly as a result of the economic recession. Among other things, high energy and electricity prices are causing problems for Germany as a business location. A poorly conceived energy transition leads to significant social and economic collateral damage. Enormous additional expenditure on defence is straining the budget. Public debt continues to rise. Money is in short supply everywhere. That is why it is becoming increasingly important to use financial resources efficiently – and climate protection is the ideal area in which to do so. That is the focus of this newsletter. We have produced two IMPULS papers in which we aim to show how climate protection can be made more cost-effective and impactful. The global level plays a key role here, as climate protection is many times more cost-effective in the Global South than in Germany.
