The Federal Audit Office (BRH) criticises the German hydrogen strategy as too expensive and inadequately planned. This poses considerable risks for the federal budget. In fact, green hydrogen is considerably more expensive than assumed by the traffic light coalition government – and will remain so for the foreseeable future. The BRH also takes a critical view of hydrogen transport and storage. This applies in particular to the construction of transport infrastructure, especially pipelines. The conclusion of GES authors Thomas Frewer and Hans Jürgen Wernicke: without pragmatic EU regulation of green and blue hydrogen and a longer planning horizon, the hydrogen strategy will not work.
