This is the title of the new debate book by Prof. Dr Ernst Ulrich von Weizsäcker, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of GES. In an interview with CHEManager, he takes a stand on issues of climate protection and the energy transition. An excerpt: In sunny countries like Algeria or Saudi Arabia, you can produce a kilowatt hour of photovoltaic electricity for as little as one eurocent. Depending on the location, green hydrogen can be produced today for eight to ten euro cents. If this hydrogen is converted with CO2, climate-neutral methanol is produced. At the same time, CO2 is transformed from a climate-damaging waste product into a raw material. The methanol produced this way would be suitable as a petrol substitute in existing combustion engines.
